There a several major initiatives in progress for LPS in 2010. Many of which you may already know about, some you may not. Read about the all of the P & C major projects for 2010.

The replacement of the Pool Seating and the planned Hall Upgrade

As many of you will have heard from the recent P&C meetings the P&C has been working with a number of parent volunteers on finalising the plans for replacing the seating at the pool along with ideas to upgrade the hall.  We wanted to give everyone an update on what has happened to date and what is coming.

The hall upgrade

The plan is to have the entrance to the hall opened up, add a cola (covered outdoor learning area), upgrade the sound & lighting system, make some more storage and ultimately have the hall usable as a gymnasium to enable greater options to the children for sport and an area to exercise on rainy days.

At the Fathers Day breakfast last year, James Willis and a group of Dad's came up with the idea of having a Dad's fundraising event.  This is what James had to say

"My original thought had been that if there was a specific project that the P&C wanted to raise funds for rather than lots of little events, and not always knowing where the money raised was going,  why not get the Dad's together and see if we could help raise some of the money ourselves. I and several other dad's felt that we may be in a position to give a more serious donation to the P&C if we were certain we knew where the money was going and that our own kids would still be at the school to benefit from the project. In addition there is a strong feeling that we would like to leave the school in a better position than we found it when it comes to us eventually leaving the school and this was a way of doing that."

What has happened to date:

Step 1              The Dad's met for a drink and brainstorm which resulted in the idea to have a Dad's night out in Aug/Sept 2010 at the Bowling Club/Lindfield Soccer Club, showcase the sketches / drawings of what the P&C is proposing and then launch into the fund raising drive.  This event will be advertised well in advance for a Friday night get together and may include a Horse Racing Night

Step 2             Another small group of parents with expertise in and around this type of construction project have met and started to think of possible plans

The next steps

Step 3              We now need some more creative input into how the hall extension might look - are you interested in helping with these ideas?

Step 4              The final costs will be confirmed

Step 5              Dad's Fundraiser

Step 6              Finalise project plan

Step 7              Signoff from the school

Step 8              Submit plans to council

Step 9              Start the work

The Pool Seating

We are a lot further down the track on the new seating arrangements.  We are in the process of finalising the drawings to showcase to the community and getting the required 3 price quotes in for the works.

As soon as the plans are drawn up and the pricing has been finalised, we will have these available for everyone to have a look at and help us decide on which is the best option for LPS.

Thank you to:

  • Cath Shaw for her endless hours of work on the pool seating plans and getting us started on options for the Hall; and
  • James Willis for taking on the challenge of having a Dad's only fundraiser to assist in raising the additional funds for the Hall.

If you would like to be involved or simply have an interest in a particular aspect of the project we would love to hear from you.  It is our aim to involve as many of the Lindfield families in these projects as possible.
